Privacy Policy

Summary

SmartFill is a Google Sheets™ editor add-on. We don't collect personal data or store your spreadsheet contents. To generate rows, SmartFill sends a minimal request to an AI service (Gemini™) containing only your selected column headers, the requested row count, and an optional sort instruction. The generated values are written back into your selected range in Google Sheets™.

Data we don't collect

  • No user identity or contact information is collected on our servers.
  • No spreadsheet cell contents (beyond the selected headers you provide to generate data) are collected or stored by us.
  • No selling or sharing of data for advertising.

Data we process to provide the service

When you run SmartFill on a selection, the add-on sends a request to Google's Generative Language API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) including:

  • The selected header names (strings).
  • The number of rows you asked to generate.
  • An optional sort instruction inferred from your headers (e.g., “Population descending”).

No other spreadsheet data is included. The AI returns CSV-like rows, which the add-on parses and writes to your sheet.

Third-party services

SmartFill calls Google's Generative Language (Gemini™) API over HTTPS to generate content. Your request is transmitted securely to that service and handled under Google's terms. We don't proxy or resell this data.

Permissions used by the add-on

  • spreadsheets.currentonly — Read the selected header row and write generated rows directly beneath it in the open spreadsheet.
  • script.external_request — Send the minimal request described above to the Gemini™ API endpoint over HTTPS.

Metrics & Logs for Service Improvement

To maintain and improve the SmartFill service, we log anonymous, non-personal information about add-on usage. This includes:

  • Operational Events: Start times, success confirmations, and error occurrences (e.g., "API call failed", "Parsing error").
  • Generation Data: Information about the request structure, such as the rows requested, the headers provided, and whether a sort instruction was detected. This helps us debug issues related to specific requests.
  • Performance Data: Duration of key operations like API calls to help identify performance bottlenecks.

The logs are used solely for monitoring service health, diagnosing technical problems, and improving SmartFill's functionality and reliability. We do not share this log data with third parties or use it for any other purpose.

If you contact support via email, we will use the information you provide only to assist you with your specific issue.

Security

  • All network requests to the AI service use HTTPS/TLS.
  • API keys are stored in Google Apps Script Properties and aren't exposed in spreadsheets.
  • We apply the principle of least privilege and use the narrowest scopes required for functionality.

Your choices

  • You can stop using the add-on at any time and remove it from Google Sheets™.
  • You can contact us to request deletion of any support correspondence you've sent us.

Children's privacy

SmartFill isn't directed to children and shouldn't be used by individuals under the age where parental consent is required by local law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect product or legal changes. We'll adjust the “Last updated” date above and publish the new version here.
